"The Lost Refrain"

Dave Richardson, Keith Larson, and John DiGiulio recently joined me for the tracking of two new songs at the Wave Cave in New Bedford.

Gardening at Night – REM

Losing Transmissions – The Honeydogs

Drunken Angel – Lucinda Williams

Distant Sun – Crowded House

Possession – Elvis Costello

Always a Friend – Alejandro Escovedo

Death Defying – The Hoodoo Gurus

Carribbean Wind – Bob Dylan

Jerusalem – Steve Earle

Backstreets – Bruce Springsteen

Had a great time Saturday with the semi-reunited Marlowes and a slew of other great bands celebrating Bill's 50th.

I just found out that Charlie Chesterman, the frontman of Boston-based roots-rock pioneers Scruffy the Cat and the Legendary Motorbikes, lost his long battle with cancer in November and died at age 53. Although I just heard the news today, I must say that it has hit me pretty hard.

The overdubs for the songs that we recorded in April are coming along nicely thanks to the oversight of Anthony and Jay Capaldi.

It has taken a few years but I’m finally recording the follow-up to 2011’s Songs About Music. In April, Keith Larson (bass), Bill Jette (guitar) and John DiGiulio (drums) joined me at Rich Sound in Queens, N.Y., to record the first batch of songs for the new project.

Heading to New York in April to start working on the new album. I'll report back on the progress as it happens.
